Having received her preliminary education at Sri Jayawardanapura Girls’ School in Kotte, Shashila pursued her passion for dance by studying various styles, including Kandyan, ballet, and Indian dance. As a professional dancer attached to the “Channa Upuli Performing Arts Foundation,” she has graced prestigious stages such as the Sydney Opera House and Marlboro House in the UK.
Shashila’s accomplishments also include winning the Sirasa Dancing Star Season 2 reality show and participating in international dance championship competitions. She has honed her skills in Latin American dance styles, such as Cha-cha, Jive, and Samba, under the guidance of renowned dance teacher Mr. Kevin Nugara.
In 2010, Shashila formed the Shashila Dance Troupe, and a year later, established her very own dance academy called Shashila Dance Theatre in Battaramulla. Over the years, she has trained more than 1000 students in various dance styles, including Kandyan, Hip-hop, Latin American, ballet, and Indian.
Shashila’s journey led her to Melbourne, Australia, in 2018, where she furthered her studies in professional dance and expanded her dance troupe and school, Shashila Dance Troupe and Theatre. Since her arrival in Melbourne, she has participated in numerous Sri Lankan and non-Sri Lankan events as a professional dancer, showcasing her versatility and dedication to her craft.
As the lead instructor at SHEE Dance Academy, Shashila currently teaches Sri Lankan Traditional Kandyan dance and Contemporary ballet dance to international students. Her commitment to sharing her love for dance extends beyond the classroom, as she also explores the art of singing and has released music videos filmed in Melbourne.
Shashila’s genuine passion for dance, combined with her belief in the importance of cultural exchange, makes her an inspiring and sought-after instructor. Her dedication to her craft and her students ensures that the younger generation has the knowledge, courage, and confidence to become leaders in the performing arts industry.
