Shashila Perera, the founder and lead instructor at Shashila Dance Theater, is a celebrated Sri Lankan dancer based in Melbourne. With over 20 years of experience in the dance industry, Shashila has showcased her talent in 22 countries, leaving a lasting impression on audiences worldwide. As a proud cultural ambassador, she is dedicated to sharing her passion for dance and preserving the essence of Sri Lankan culture through her performances and teachings.

Shashila Perera, the founder and lead instructor at Shashila Dance Theater, is a celebrated Sri Lankan dancer based in Melbourne. With over 20 years of experience in the dance industry, Shashila has showcased her talent in 22 countries, captivating audiences worldwide. As a proud cultural ambassador, she is dedicated to sharing her passion for dance and preserving the essence of Sri Lankan culture through her performances and teachings.

Shashila received her preliminary education at Sri Jayawardanapura Girls’ School in Kotte, where she began her journey in dance by studying various styles, including Kandyan, ballet, and Indian dance. She continued her dance education in Melbourne, graduating as a dance student from Dance Factory Richmond Australia, where her main subjects were Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, and Musical Theatre.

As a professional dancer attached to the “Channa Upuli Performing Arts Foundation,” Shashila has graced prestigious stages such as the Sydney Opera House and Marlboro House in the UK. Her accomplishments include winning the Sirasa Dancing Star Season 2 reality show and participating in international dance championship competitions. Under the guidance of renowned dance teacher Mr. Kevin Nugara, she has honed her skills in Latin American dance styles such as Cha-cha, Jive, and Samba.

In 2010, Shashila formed the Shashila Dance Troupe, and a year later, established her very own dance academy called Shashila Dance Theatre in Battaramulla. Over the years, she has trained more than 1000 students in various dance styles, including Kandyan, Hip-hop, Latin American, ballet, and Indian.

Shashila’s journey led her to Melbourne, Australia, in 2018, where she expanded her dance troupe and school, Shashila Dance Troupe and Theatre. Since her arrival in Melbourne, she has participated in numerous Sri Lankan and non-Sri Lankan events as a professional dancer, showcasing her versatility and dedication to her craft.

As the lead instructor at Shashila Dance Theater, Shashila has captivated the hearts of international students with her mesmerizing lessons in Sri Lankan Traditional Kandyan dance and Contemporary ballet. A versatile artist, she has also delved into singing and mesmerized audiences with her Melbourne-filmed music videos. Eagerly awaiting the opportunity to inspire international dancers once more, Shashila is poised to restart her classes for international students and create a new wave of movement and expression in the near future.
